We work hard every minute of every day at 1 Million Women to support people in changing the way they live to fight the climate crisis. We do this because we all face a climate emergency.
For the world to contain global warming to a 1.5 degrees C or less of warming, we need every government to lead. That's what Australia and hundreds of other member states of the United Nations recognised through the historic Paris agreement last December, just several months ago.
Climate change threatens the very fabric of our existence. It affects economic growth, our jobs and our health and the natural environment that sustains us including treasures like the Great Barrier Reef. It affects the rich and the poor. It affects everyone everywhere.
It's simply breathtaking the Australian Government's 2016 Federal Budget doesn't mention climate change. No reference to the extraordinary innovation opportunities on offer and the prosperity that clean energy can bring through increased jobs and economic growth.
Climate change and all that comes with it affects everything and we feel shattered that it has been ignored in the nation's most important economic plan.
